Provisional 2009 diary
Competitions take place in different age groups and there are 3
different types of discipline: individual figures, duet routines
and team routines.
Individual figures
Each competitor individually performs a set of defined movements
and positions to the judges. The objective is to perform each figure
as perfectly as possible, music is not used for this part of the
competition.
Duet routines
Pairs of swimmers perform a routine to music and are scored for
technical merit and artistic impression. An example duet is included
in our video gallery.
Team / combination routines
Within a team for any particular age group there will typically
be synchro swimmers at different levels of ability and the routines
are designed to allow less experienced competitors to take part
alongside more experienced swimmers. This means that novices can
start to take part in competitions while they are still at an early
stage in their development. A team of up to 10 swimmers perfrom
a routine to music and judges award marks for technical merit and
artistic impression. An example routine from our open team is included
in our video gallery.
Age groups
Competitions take place in the following age groups 12 & Under;
13 to 14, 15 to 17; 18 & Over. Additionally there is often a
competition for an Open Team including swimmers from various age
groups. These age bands refer to the age of the competitor at midnight
on the 31st December of the year of the competition. An example
combination routine from our 12 & under team is included in
our video gallery.
